Arabic SEO in the UAE: How to Rank in Arabic and English

In the UAE, your customers search in two languages. Some type in English, some in Arabic, and many switch between the two depending on what they are looking for. A website that only ranks in one language is invisible to a large part of its market.

This guide explains how bilingual SEO works in the UAE and what it takes to rank in both Arabic and English.

1. Arabic keywords are not translations

The biggest mistake is translating English keywords into Arabic. People do not search that way. Someone looking for an online store might type «تصميم متجر إلكتروني», «انشاء متجر الكتروني» or «عمل متجر اونلاين», and each version has its own search volume and competition.

Arabic search also varies in spelling. Users often skip hamzas and dots, writing «الكتروني» instead of «إلكتروني», or «ذكاء اصطناعى» with a final ى. Good Arabic keyword research covers these real-world variations instead of only the textbook spelling.

What to do: research Arabic keywords separately, from Arabic search data, and group them by intent: ready to buy, comparing options, or just learning.

2. Build real Arabic pages, not translated ones

Google ranks pages, not websites. To rank in Arabic you need Arabic pages that:

  • Are written for Arabic readers, in clear Modern Standard Arabic or the tone your audience expects.
  • Use a true right-to-left layout, with correct Arabic typography.
  • Have their own Arabic title, meta description and headings built around Arabic keywords.
  • Live at their own URL, for example /ar/services/..., so Google can index them separately.

3. Connect the two languages with hreflang

Hreflang tags tell Google that your English and Arabic pages are versions of each other, so it shows Arabic searchers the Arabic page and English searchers the English one. Every page should point to itself and to its other-language version, plus an x-default. Your XML sitemap should list both versions too.

4. Local SEO: win the map in Dubai

For searches like "web design Dubai" or «شركة برمجة في دبي», Google often shows a map with three businesses above the normal results. To appear there:

  • Complete your Google Business Profile with the right categories, services, hours and photos.
  • Ask all your clients for honest reviews, not just the happy ones, and reply to every review.
  • Keep your business name, address and phone number identical everywhere online.
  • Add location pages for the emirates you serve, such as Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.

5. Get the technical basics right

Arabic and English content only ranks if Google can load and understand it. Check:

  • Speed: fast Core Web Vitals on mobile, where most UAE searches happen.
  • Structured data: Organization, LocalBusiness, Product, FAQ and Breadcrumb markup.
  • Clean indexing: an up-to-date XML sitemap, sensible robots rules and canonical tags.
  • Redirects: if you changed websites, every old URL should permanently redirect to its new page.

6. Measure what matters

Track rankings in both languages separately, and connect Google Search Console and Google Analytics to see which searches bring leads and sales, not just visits. Technical fixes can show results within weeks, while strong rankings for competitive keywords usually take three to six months of steady work, and sometimes longer.
